Save Mollem

The Save Mollem (Amche Mollem) citizens’ movement is striving to safeguard and create an environment for future generations to thrive in, based on the principles of Intergenerational Equity and Seventh Generation stewardship. The movement aims to raise awareness about the global importance of the biodiversity of Goa’s largest protected area and the three destructive projects that threaten its irreplaceable forests.

The movement has galvanized both national and international support for the protection of Goa’s forests and also called for accountable policy-making by the Goa Government.

For the Changemakers campaign we would like to showcase some of our favourite changemakers from our strategic programmes:

The campaign is continuing its work by currently pushing for the following:

  1. The campaign's core efforts have been to question the need for a 400kv coal-powered transmission line, a railway transporting coal and a highway for increased road traffic that will not only damage our largest Protected Area but also lay the foundations for Goa to become a source for non-renewable energy. In addition, the campaign is calling for a more climate smart energy plan for Goa.
  2. In addition to these core efforts, the campaign has also been encouraging young people in Goa to engage more actively and effectively with their elected representatives.
  3. The campaign has also been hosting numerous talks under the banners of ‘ethical livelihoods’, ‘forests and their people’, ‘alternative tourism’ and more, to bring to the forefront the various people working in these fields and stimulate conversations of this nature with our wider network.
  4. The campaign has a wide reach among young people across Goa, and India more generally, and its large following is an indicator of the importance that young people attach towards intergenerational equity, climate change mitigation, and political accountability.
